Classes and Descriptions: Mr. Griffith's 2014-2015 School Year
U.S. History-
In U.S. History students will be learning about the "Chain of Events" that transpired from Civil War Times up until Modern History. Students will gain an exceptional understanding of our nation's political history and will learn about the heroes and events that shaped this beautiful country's landscape. In this class, I expect students to actively engage in the material, both independently and collectively. We will learn not only through text, but through each other, as we collaboratively examine this nation's past and present.
English and SAT PREP
English and SAT Prep will be an intriguing opportunity for students to better themselves as they improve their overall English writing and grammar skills, while preparing themselves for the SAT Test. Students will learn through interactive assignments that will invoke a litany of concepts to help prepare them to perform proficiently on the SAT Test. In this class, I expect everyone to use proper grammar, build vocabulary and become efficient writers.
Journalism and Public Speaking
This class will revolve around a collaborative effort amongst students and the teacher to produce a newspaper named the, "Marauder Mirror." Students will be expected to write and edit articles that encompass important events taking place within the Bishop Guilfoyle Community. In order to become better journalists, we will conduct observations of professional journalists and reporters using such media outlets as the Altoona Mirror, USA Today, CNN, FOX NEWS, and SportsCenter. To coincide with the journalistic approach, we will also conduct public speaking activities into our weekly lesson plans. Students should expect a professional environment that pushes them to excel in a team environment.
Multi-Media
Students in this class will explore the world of computer science. In this class, I will indulge the students with the basics of computer graphic design, audio and video production, web and printing publishing. Here, students will learn the concepts that drive the field of computers. Students will work independently and as a group on various projects.
